What is Over-control?
Over-control refers to a personality phenotype or coping style where people inhibit their expression of emotions. This can often result from beliefs that showing their emotions is unnecessary or may lead to negative outcomes. People who grew up in invalidating environments where they were punished for showing emotions, or people who choose to work in roles where emotions are discouraged may present as over-controlled.
