As infants, we are inherently vulnerable. We rely on our caregivers for everything because we can’t do a thing for ourselves. While we need them to feed us and change us, what we really need is to feel loved, safe and wanted. We need a parent to respond to us when we are distressed and soothe us until we feel calm. This mode tells us that we are safe.
This guide provides information on the importance of Vulnerable Child Mode in Schema Mode Therapy, outlining what your Vulnerable Child needs to feel safe and wanted, how to soothe yourself when you are feeling vulnerable, and practise acting differently towards your vulnerability.
By understanding this mode, you can start developing healthier coping mechanisms for handling tough times.
